On August 3rd, the results of the assessment programme for selecting the “Most Influential Listed Companies in China 2006” were announced in Shanghai and CCB won the title of the “Most Influential Overseas Listed Chinese Companies 2006”.  This three-month long activity was hosted by Shanghai Securities News with academic supports from Guanghua School of Management, Peking University.

The year 2006 was CCB's first full business year after its public listing.  In this year, CCB had seized on market opportunities and implemented its operational concept of focussing on its customer in every facet of its operations.  While maintaining steady growth in its established core businesses, it had been actively developing its retail, small to medium-sized enterprise, international, treasury and financial management businesses.  Preliminary success in its strategic transformation had been achieved and CCB had registered sharp companywide business growth while its business structure had been significantly optimised.  As various transformation programmes were being implemented in an orderly manner, CCB had seen continuous improvement in its management capabilities and internal risk controls.  By achieving steady improvement in its asset quality, significant enhancement of its earnings power and good results in its market performance, CCB had fulfilled its commitments to its investors.

As at the end of 2006, CCB’s total asset had reached RMB 5,448.51 billion, which represented as increase of RMB 862.77 billion or 18.81% over the previous year.  Its pre-tax profit was RMB 65.72 billion, which was an increase of RMB 10.35 billion or 18.70%.  Earnings per share were RMB 0.21, while average return on assets and average return of shareholders’ equity were 0.92% and 15.00% respectively.  Ever since its listing, CCB's share price has been edging upwards steadily and its capitalisation is now among the top 10 listed banks in the world.  On September 11th, 2006 CCB became a constituent of the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong, making it the first H-share achieving blue-chip status.

The outstanding results and performance of CCB’s businesses have won it accolades from all sectors of society and from domestic as well as international renowned media.  In July 2007, CCB was ranked 14th on the “Top 1,000 World Banks” listing compiled by the Banker, a UK magazine, based on the tier-one capital of the banks worldwide.  In November 2006, in the “Most Competitive Asian Bank Listing 2006”, CCB not only was ranked 4th among all Asian banks and first among all nominated Chinese commercial banks, but was awarded the title of “Most Competitive Chinese Commercial Bank”.  In addition, it had been named “Best Domestic Bank 2006” and “Best Chinese Bank 2007” respectively by the Asset magazine of Hong Kong and by Global Finance magazine.

The “Most Influential Listed Companies in China 2006” assessment programme was the first comprehensive assessment programme ever conducted in China, covering Chinese companies which are either listed domestically or overseas as well as listed multinationals.  The programme consists of three main overall ranking lists (one of which is the “Most Influential Overseas Listed Chinese Companies), four single criterion lists, two special feature lists and one list for secretaries of boards of directors.  To ensure that assessment was objective and fair, domestic applicants were first examined through a comprehensive assessment of their financial status, return on investment, corporate governance, social responsibility and influence.  Those meeting pre-determined criteria were entered into a pool of domestically listed qualified candidates.  Meanwhile, Reuters and Hong Kong Economic Times were responsible for jointly producing a pool of overseas listed and multinational candidates.  The final selection was carried out by a professional assessment committee, institutional investors as well as individual investors.  Altogether, more than 50 votes from institutional investors and more than 10,000 votes from individual investors had been received.  After tallying the votes, China Construction Bank, China National Offshore Oil Corporation, etc. won the Most Influential Overseas Listed Chinese Company award.
